The Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation course is designed for students who wish to study Conservation at postgraduate level, but who do not have the specialist degree qualification needed for an MA. The course is open to applicants who have no previous experience of paper conservation. It will enable students from diverse academic or professional backgrounds to develop specialist skills, knowledge and focus in preparation for practice in the field or further study at MA level.
The Postgraduate Diploma is an intensive introduction to the theory and practice of paper conservation, and relevant areas of conservation science and museology. Teaching consists of practical classes, lectures and seminars in paper conservation techniques, conservation of parchment, basic bookbinding, conservation science and museology. A programme of visits to curatorial and conservation departments in London is also part of the course.
PgDip Conservation Staff

Visiting tutors include Leonard Hanson, who is Conservator at the Hulton-Getty Picture Library, Dr. Sandra Grantham, a conservator at the Victoria and Albert Museum, David Collins, A Member of the Society of Archivists who has worked in Sinai, Greece and Finland, and Eleni Katsiani, the Head of Conservation at the Royal College of Arms.
Many graduates from the Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation have gone on to study on the MA in Conservation at Camberwell or at the Royal College of Art, the Courtauld Institute of Art, the Textile Conservation Centre and the University of Northumbria.
