Private View and Live Drawing: Thursday 4 March, 17.00 – 21.00

Open: 5 – 26 March 2010

Venue: KK Outlet, 42 Hoxton Square, London N1 6PB

Curated by Autista and KK Outlet, Fax Ex-Machina is a one off live art exchange between Brazilian and UK artists taking place simultaneously in KK Outlet, London and POP Gallery Sao Paulo.

Brazilian artists Ramon Martins, Eduardo Recife (Misprinted Type), Elisa Sassi and Carlos Dias will fax their original artwork from Brazil straight to the walls of KK Outlet whilst UK based artists Andrew Clark , Billie Jean, Mcbess and Jimmy Turrell will be drawing live at KK Outlet and transmitting their pieces to POP Gallery, Sao Paulo.

High taxes and blindsided customs laws make it impractical to import and export art in and out of Brazil. Using the lo-fi means of fax machines we aim to avoid these extortionate charges and showcase young talent in and outside of Brazil.

An additional fax machine will be placed in the window of KK Outlet. KK Outlet are inviting anyone from around the globe to fax art work, the best pieces will be included in the show. All submissions to be sent to the following number from Thursday 4 March  +44 (0)20 7739 0396.

Design Real

chair-lure-heart

2nd Year BA 3D Design students have been involved in providing edited research material used in the current Design Real exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery. The show, curated by German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, is an exhibition of 43 mass produced industrial objects that have been chosen to make specific points about todays design culture. The objects are shown without supporting text and the public are asked to enter a specially designed research space where they can find information about each object, displayed via the show’s website. Camberwell 3D Design students worked alongside teams from Paris, Lausanne and Boston to collect and edit the information, polishing their research skills along the way via feedback from Konstantin.

Painting?

travelling_light_jane_harris4blog

Can the medium ‘painting’ retain its identity in painting whilst acknowledging the impure mixing of sources, influences and techniques that are prevalent in today’s supposedly post-medium age?

This was the subject discussed at  the La Peinture Est Presque Abstraite symposium which accompanied the current Camberwell Space show. The show was curated by Camberwell BA Painting Associate Lecturer Claude Temin-Vergez and brings together a group of French and UK artists. The show is a collaboration between Camberwell College of Arts, the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Bourges and the École Regionale Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Valence. The show continues until 23 December.

Thinking:Objects

tim_parsons_bookcover

Tim Parsons – Senior Lecturer on the BA 3D Design course has recently had a book published by AVA Academia. The book ‘Thinking: Objects – Contemporary Approaches to Product Design’ looks at the many approaches designers take to their work and discusses their motivation. It also explores what the design process feels like in the mind and shows how drawing and model making aid decision-making.

To celebrate the launch there will be an exhibition at the Aram Gallery in London. The exhibition will illustrate a selection of the ideas explored in the book and will include products designed by Konstantin Grcic, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Naoto Fukasawa and Daniel Weil among others.

The show runs from 11 December 2009 – 9 January 2010.
